Where the Pigeons Preach is a short-experimental documentative film by photographer Fedella Lizeth dedicated to the overlooked and underserved communities of color in San Diego that are typically oppressed by the harsh ways of the city’s government, however yet otherwise thrive in family, culture, and through hard work in surviving unjust socioeconomic systems ultimately maintaining a humble sense of living, a culture of community, and a perseverance of survival. Pigeons, like us, are birds often overlooked, disregarded, and expected to get out of our way. While gentrification and commodification of our hoods becomes more and more consistent within the city of San Diego, our homes and values are being taken away from us. We are forced to become displaced, disadvantaged, and pushed to our survival instincts more now than ever to live here. This film is for the people of the real and beautiful San Diego, Califas: East San Diego, Sherman Heights, National City, Barrio Logan, Chula Vista, Spring Valley, Lemon Grove, San Ysidro and the South East. Like the pigeons in the streets, we are always here and if we leave, we will always come back.
